To become a candidate for Member of Parliament (MP) in the upcoming elections, you should start planning ahead as early as possible. You may run from any federal riding, as you do not have to live in the same riding you want to run from. Connecting with local community leaders, attending various events, volunteering for various non-profit and charitable organizations are all valuable ways to give back to your community.
After you decide to run in the upcoming federal election, you should download the candidate application forms from Elections Canada website. You will need to obtain 150 signatures from 150 constituents who live in the riding where you are planning to run from. You will submit this application with the 150 signatures to Elections Canada after the date of the election is announced. Elections Canada will need to verify the signatures of at least 100 constituents who live your riding before you are confirmed to become a candidate from that riding. Becoming a member of the Centrist Party, getting involved with local Electoral District Association, and volunteering for the Centrist Party will significantly help in the process of being a candidate. Contacting the Executive Council of the Centrist Party at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible is also important.
